Lymphatic Drainage Massage: Detoxification and Immune Health
Lymphatic Drainage Massage (MLD) is a gentle massage technique stimulating lymph flow, reducing swelling, detoxifying, and supporting immune health.
What Is Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage?
At Advaya Healing Bodywork, we believe in nurturing your body’s natural rhythms – and one of the most powerful ways to do that is through Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) massage. This gentle, therapeutic technique is designed to support your lymphatic system, which plays a vital role in your immune health, fluid balance, and detoxification.
Your lymphatic system is like your body’s internal cleansing crew. It moves lymph fluid – rich in white blood cells – through a network of vessels and nodes, helping to remove waste, toxins, and excess fluid. But unlike your circulatory system, the lymphatic system doesn’t have a pump. It relies on movement, breath, and sometimes a little extra help. That’s where our Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massages come in.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a light, rhythmic massage technique that encourages the natural flow of your lymph. Using slow, sweeping strokes and gentle pressure, we stimulate your lymphatic vessels just beneath the skin. The result? A calming, deeply restorative experience that helps reduce swelling, boost immunity, and promote healing.
MLD is especially beneficial after surgery or injury, when lymph flow can become sluggish or blocked. It’s often recommended following cosmetic procedures like liposuction or breast augmentation to ease swelling and support tissue regeneration. But you don’t need to be recovering from surgery to benefit – MLD is also wonderful for managing chronic conditions like lymphedema, fibromyalgia, or sinus congestion, or if you are seeking a gentle detox or stress relief.
We approach MLD with care, presence, and a deep respect for your body’s wisdom. Each session is tailored to your needs, whether you’re healing, rebalancing, or simply seeking a moment of peace.
If you’re curious about how MLD can support your wellness journey, we’d love to guide you. Whether you’re recovering from surgery, managing a health condition, or simply looking to feel better in your body, our Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massages offer a gentle yet powerful path to healing.
How we perform Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage
MLD begins with intention and presence. We will first assess your needs, whether you’re recovering from surgery, managing swelling, or simply seeking a restorative experience. You’ll be comfortably positioned, often lying down. Our peaceful practice will allow your nervous system to settle.
Using light, feather-like strokes, we may begin by activating your lymph nodes. These nodes act as filtration hubs. Stimulating them helps prepare your body to receive and move lymph fluid more efficiently. The strokes follow the natural pathways of lymph flow, always moving toward the nearest lymph node.
Our techniques involve slow, circular movements and gentle pumping motions, performed with hands and fingers. These movements stretch your skin just enough to stimulate the lymph vessels beneath, without compressing deeper tissues. It’s a delicate process, but incredibly effective. Many clients describe the sensation as soothing, almost hypnotic – like being rocked by a soft current.
As the massage progresses, we may focus on areas of congestion or swelling, guiding fluid toward areas where it can be processed and eliminated. Session flow with care and precision, always respecting your body’s pace and comfort.
MLD is performed without oils or lotions, allowing us to maintain the right level of contact and pressure. Sessions typically last between 60 to 90 minutes, depending on your goals and condition.
We see MLD as more than a technique – it’s a healing ritual. It supports your immune system, reduces inflammation, and helps your body recover and renew. Whether you’re navigating post-surgical healing or simply craving a gentle reset, MLD offers a compassionate touch that honours your body’s innate wisdom.
