Your next step toward true healing…

A bodywork intake consultation is your first step towards physical and emotional healing. Here, we lay the foundation of your personalised treatment plan. This is where you meet your bodywork therapist for the first time to make your healing journey true and real…

As a new Advaya Healing Bodywork client you will be invited to first visit us for an Intake Consultation. This will be your first and perhaps most important step toward experiencing healing bodywork with us. In as much as this can be exciting it can also be daunting. This page explains what you can expect from your consultation so that you can relax before your arrival.

The primary objective of any Intake Consultation is to help you understand how our bodywork services can support you. At the end of this session your bodywork therapist may suggest an initial treatment plan, which usually covers two or three proposed sessions. Based on this plan you can then decide to either continue with us by booking your first ‘true’ bodywork session, or to seek assistance from other therapists.

Any intake consultation consists of four parts, which are usually completed within one hour.

Comfortable intake consultations

Our Intake Consultations usually consist of four parts –

Part 1 – Initial chat

When you arrive at our practice you will first be welcomed by your therapist. Then you can sit back and relax while your therapist introduces you to Advaya Healing and the types of bodywork we provide. The purpose of this initial chat is to help you understand how treatments are performed, how treatment programmes are designed and developed, and what you can expect from your sessions.

We will aim to answer your questions and will listen to any concerns you may have.

Part 2 – Your history

Still in a conversational setting, we then invite you to share your concerns and important aspects of your history with us. We aim to understand your concerns about your physical health and wellbeing, and your desires for emotional healing. During this period we may take notes to help us establish a treatment record for you. If you present multiple concerns we may choose to focus on the one(s) that appear most critical to you, leaving others for further examination later on.

At the end of this segment we will invite you to position yourself on our treatment table for an initial assessment. You are not expected to do so if you have reservations about the suitability of your therapist or our work. In such case you may choose to discontinue the consultation.

Part 3 – Initial physical assessment

If you have a concern about a specific region or area of your body we will examine this first.

If you do not have a specific concern we usually examine your back instead. We will invite you to position yourself comfortably, face-down on our table. If you are a woman, your therapist will leave the room to give you privacy during your undressing and re-dressing and return only on your signal. By the time you ask your therapist to reenter the room you will be covered up safely and comfortably.

During this part of your intake consultation your therapist will examine the positioning and structure of your body’s major landmarks, including your shoulder blades, spine, sacrum, and pelvis. Depending on your concerns and reasons for visiting us your therapist may also examine other aspects of your physique to develop first impressions of your physical condition.

This part of your intake consultation usually includes some basic therapeutic work to help you understand what actual treatments may feel like. Invariably, this work will be performed on your back. This also allows your therapist to get an initial ‘feel’ of your muscles and facia, and to observe how your body responds to the basic techniques and methods used. None of this work will ever be uncomfortable or painful.

At the end, your therapist will have gained a basic understanding of the nature of your physical concerns, your overall wellbeing, and your associated desires for emotional healing.

At the conclusion of this part, your therapist will ask you to redress and, again, leave the room to offer you privacy.

Part 4 – Observations and treatment proposal

Once you are dressed again your bodywork therapist will re-enter the room to share first assessment observations with you. None of these assessments will be offered as clinical or medical diagnoses but as indicators that may inform a personal treatment plan. You will be invited to share your experience and to provide feedback on how the initial work already affected you.

Your therapist will answer any further questions you may have.

No obligations

You will be under no obligation to book further sessions with us if you believe that we are not the right bodywork practice for you, if you feel that our proposed treatment plan may not work, or if you feel that our bodywork services do not suit your needs and requirement. We will remain respectful to your choice to either progress or discontinue our work with you.

Your physical concerns, wellbeing, and desires for emotional healing matter greatly to us. Whatever these may be, we will always meet them with utmost respect and care.

If you wish to continue your healing journey with us, you will be invited to book your next session(s) through our online booking system. Alternatively, and on your request only, your therapist can book a next treatment slot manually for you immediately at the end of your intake consultation.
